What is IEC

Import Export Code (IEC) license is one of the prerequisite when you’re thinking of importing or exporting from India.IEC Code is unique 10 digit code issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Government of India which has lifetime validity. IE Codes when issued can be used by the entity throughout its existence and doesn't require any renewal or filing. Predominantly importers merchant cannot import goods without the Import Export Code and similarly, the exporter merchant cannot avail benefits from DGFT for the export scheme, etc. without IEC. Therefore, it is recommended for most organizations to obtain IE Code, irrespective of if they need it at the moment
